FIBER COOKIE RECALLED; MEDICAL CLAIMS FALSE

The Phoenix Fiber Cookie that promises weight loss and protection from cancer and other diseases is being removed from store shelves under threat of court action by federal regulators.

The FDA last Friday told the company to take the products off the market because promotional materials for them made unsubstantiated medical claims. The agency threatened to go to court if the company did not comply.

The FDA also said the cookies contained twice the approximately 120 calories claimed on the label and disguised sugar content by saying on the label that the cookies contained "100 percent natural cane juice."
