ROANOKE JOB GROWTH BEATS NATIONAL RATE

The number of jobs in the Roanoke area grew 2.6 percent in the past decade, less than the state average of 3.4 percent but more than the national average of 2 percent.

Northern Virginia's high rate of 6.1 percent pulled the state average up, according to a study by the Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. The Norfolk area had the second highest rate of 3.4 percent; Charlottesville had 2.7 percent growth; Richmond and Roanoke were tied. - Staff report
