P. Reed Brooks, regional vice president, said the closing will affect the jobs of 25 people, 15 of whom work part-time. He said Signet hopes to reassign all the displaced workers to other jobs in Roanoke when the operation ends in July.
Signet previously closed satellite centers in Maryland and Portsmouth as part of the consolidation. Brooks said new high speed reader-sorter equipment makes it more efficient to handle processing in a single location.
Signet has about 150 employees in the Roanoke Valley. - Staff report
