FIRE COMPANIES' FINE WORK AT LUMBER YARD

WE WANT to commend the professionalism and dedication of the Roanoke City Fire Department at Hodges Lumber Corp. It is due only to their response and relentless energies that the blaze May 8 was contained and our main building was spared. District Fire Chief Jim Patton directed the crews of Engines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 12, and Ladder Truck 2 to bring the fire under control in the minimum time, thereby diverting a potentially devastating situation for us.

It is indeed a pitifully helpless feeling to stand by while others work to save one's livelihood, especially when that livelihood envelops a family history. We've been around for more than 70 years, and thanks to the responding fire crews we'll continue to be here to serve the valley. We should all be proud of our fire department and the men and women who serve it.
