Bill Hubard, president of Center in the Square and a "big tree" expert, will lead a bus and walking tour to visit giant trees of the Roanoke Valley, explaining the process by which rare specimens are included in the "Roanoke Big Tree Register." The tour is June 3, 1:30-4:30 p.m. Stops include campuses of Hollins and Roanoke colleges, Mountain View and South Roanoke. Cost is $11 and includes transportation, tour and refreshments. David Bell, horticulturist and supervisor of grounds, and Jo Ferguson, coordinator of interior planning and design, will lead a tour of the historic Hollins College campus June 20, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tour includes Dana Science Building for discussion of plant propagation, history of pre-Civil War buildings, Peale Garden, the Quadrangle, tea in the Green Drawing Room, and viewing of rare porcelain Doughty Birds. The $11 includes guided tour and tea.
