HORSE-RACING GROUPS JOIN FORCES TO LOBBY

Virginia's five major horse-racing organizations have joined forces to lobby for legislative approval of off-track betting on horse races.

The groups have formed the Virginia Racing Coalition and hired veteran lobbyist Jeff Gregson as executive director. The coalition will monitor the progress of a joint General Assembly committee formed to study the feasibility of off-track betting and present findings at the 1991.

Most horse-racing industry analysts believe a major horse racetrack in the state would have difficulty succeeding without off-track betting.
