NORTH KOREA TO RETURN REMAINS OF AMERICANS

North Korea today said it will release the remains of some U.S. soldiers killed in the Korean War, and a South Korean newspaper reported Washington plans to upgrade contacts with the communist north.

Chosun Ilbo, a leading newspaper, quoted anonymous sources as saying Washington wants to include diplomats up to the ambassadorial level and will carry on such contacts in new unspecified locations.

North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency, monitored in Tokyo, said the Pyongyang government will return "some unearthed remains of U.S. soldiers" to the United States through U.S. congressmen at the border village of Panmunjom May 28.
