\ Carlos Edgar Ward, age 94, of Roanoke, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on May 5, 1896, the youngest of six boys and two girls. He was a graduate of Emory and Henry College and obtained a Doctorate from Vanderbilt University. He served in the Army Air Service from 1917 to 1919 and participated in the Meuse and Argonne Forest Campaigns. Dr. Ward had an active role in three of the most useful government programs, The CCC, Radar, and G.I Education. He entered government service in 1934 with the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C., as a counseling psychologist until his retirement in 1965. He was a founder of the Sheltered Occupational Center of Northern Virginia and an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Arlington, Va. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jackson Ward; two daughters, Margaret Ann Ward, Arlington; and Carol Pruner, Roanoke; two grandsons, Todd and Scott; and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday from Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery, Austinville, Va., with Rev. Beverly Felty officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Arlington Community Residences, Inc., or the Roanoke United Methodist Home. Arrangements are being handled by Oakey's South Chapel.
