Quebec Provincial Police declined to identify the five men or say what specific charges would be lodged against them. Police spokeswoman Jeanette Couture said the men were being charged in connection with the May 1 shooting death of 31-year-old Harold Edwards.
The men were to appear at a proceeding in the Quebec Provincial Court in Valleyfield, just south of Montreal, she said.
Four of the men were taken into custody Sunday morning and taken by helicopter to police headquarters in Montreal, police spokesman Robert Poeti said.
It was not clear when or where the fifth man was taken into custody.
Poeti said an investigation continues as well into the shooting of 22-year-old Matthew Pyke on the same day. Both slayings took place on the Canadian side of the 28,000-acre reservation, which straddles the border.
Pyke was said to oppose gambling. Some on the reservation have said Edwards favored gambling; others said he was neutral.
