EXPLORE PROJECT A BOON FOR BERN

AFTER READING your article, "Explore director's company being paid while others wait," I've got to give credit where credit is due. Old Bern Ewert sure knows how to run a scam, doesn't he?

1. Cook up a scheme.

2. Sell it to the legislators. They have "power of the purse" and make the laws governing it.

3. Set yourself up as director of the project.

4. Create a consulting firm.

5. Hire yourself to consult yourself about who knows what.

6. Pay yourself a fat fee.

7. Laugh all the way to the bank well into the next century.

It's a plan that obviously works. Although the Explore Project has done nothing for the taxpayer except take his money, it has been quite a boon for Bern. BURMAN SNIDER JR. ROANOKE
