MEOLA PICKED FOR U.S. WORLD CUP TEAM

Goalkeeper Tony Meola of Kearny, N.J., a former Virginia star, and 21 others were selected for the World Cup team by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

Bob Gansler will be coaching only the fourth World Cup representative for the United States. An American team last appeared in 1950 at Brazil.

Mike Windischmann, the most experienced international soccer player in U.S. history with 48 international appearances and a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic team, leads the defense.
