The signs would generate money that could be used to reduce the center's deficit or help offset the loss of revenue if paid parking is eliminated.
Chris Powell, marketing director for the center, said it may be difficult to attract national advertisers because the city is classified as a secondary market.
But, she told the Civic Center Commission on Tuesday, the center probably could sell space to local advertisers.
Manager Bob Chapman said the next step will be to determine where to place the signs and how much it would cost to install them.
After obtaining cost estimates, "we will have decide if it's economically feasible to proceed," he said.
