POWERFUL STORM DUMPS RAIN, HAIL

A powerful thunderstorm pelted portions of Botetourt, Craig and Giles counties with rain or hail Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service reported about 1.38 inches of rain fell in a hour near Tinker Creek. Police dispatchers throughout the region reported only minor damage, such as some uprooted trees along highways.

Craig County also received some 1/4-inch hail near its border with Botetourt County.
