WOODLANDS CLEARED FOR HOUSING

BOB Johnson likes to profess support for progress in the Roanoke Valley and often implies that his actions have led to improvements. To understand where Johnson's true concerns and interests are, one need only look in Southwest Roanoke County off Greenview Road.

Here is where Johnson destroyed a beautiful little woodlands where there used to stand trees more than 200 years old. Here was an abundance of wildlife in a 10-acre area. It was a perfect example of what really makes the Roanoke Valley special - a combination of comfortable suburban housing with the natural beauty of the Roanoke Valley.

Now we are to get houses fitted closely together with no special identity to add congestion to what was a beautiful valley. This is progress and improvement?

We need not look to the Amazon rain forest or the forests of Oregon and California to see the destruction of natural beauty and old trees. One need only look in our own back yard to see how folks such as Johnson are destroying our own Roanoke Valley for personal financial gain.

Folks in Hollins should look around for a candidate for Board of Supervisors before the next election, or Johnson may have his earth-movers at their own back door! JAMES W. DOOLEY ROANOKE
