CRAIG SUPERVISORS OK TAX INCREASES

The Craig County Board of Supervisors has given preliminary approval to a $4.7 million budget requiring increases in both the real estate and personal property tax levies.

The real estate levy would go up 5 cents to 70 cents for each $100 property assessment and the personal property levy would increase 20 cents to $2.20 for each $100 assessment.

The budget will be aired at a public hearing June 4 at 3:30 p.m. It is to cover the 1990-91 fiscal year and is to take effect July 1.

Jeffrey Johnson, county administrator, said the additional revenue expected from the tax increases will be needed to cover the costs of state-mandated increases in the schools. - Staff report
