Mrs. Esther Phelps Harvey, age 85, of Roanoke, died in a Roanoke hospital Tuesday night. She was the widow of J. Garnett Harvey, a lifelong member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church, and a retired employee of the Bank of Virginia (Signet Bank). Surviving are one daughter, Molly Harvey Childers, Charlotte, N.C.; one son, James G. Harvey, II, (Roanoke City Councilman Elect), Roanoke; two granddaughters, Katherine Ann Wheeling, Roanoke; Cynthia Ann Burton, Davidson, N.C.; one great-granddaughter, Danielle Renee Wheeling. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 1:30 p.m Friday by Dr. Carl A. Collins, Jr. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m Thursday.
