SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH will receive Stephen T. Emick, who is completing Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, as its next associate pastor. Emick, a native of Scranton, Pa., will arrive July 15 and is scheduled to be married to a nurse later this year. Before entering seminary, Emick graduated from Marywood College and was a Scouting executive. He also has a master's degree from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education.

\ JOANNE L. SCHAEFER will come to Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church July 1 as minister of religious education. Schaefer holds degrees in nursing and in pastoral ministry and is a Vietnam veteran. The parish also has engaged Roberta Small, a Roanoke lawyer and parishioner, as its part-time director of the educational program, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.

\ FREE ORGAN RECITALS in air-conditioned churches each Sunday afternoon at 3 are planned again this summer by the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. The recitals will begin June 10 and continue through Sept. 2. Each recital will last 30 minutes. The programs are for families and are informal. A different church and musician will be featured each week.

\ `NO FALSE GODS BEFORE ME," a costumed play, will be presented Sunday at the 8 and 11 a.m. services at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, 1706 Grandin Road S.W. The play is replacing the sermon as the church observes Youth Sunday.

\ THE PARADISE CHORUS of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church will sing Sunday at 3 p.m. at Slate Hill Baptist Church, 4354 Elmview Road S.W.

\ THE REV. SATISH RAIBORDE, founder of a children's home in India, will conduct revival services at Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren, U.S. 220 south of Roanoke, Monday through Thursday nights at 7. Raiborde also is pastor of Charisma Family Church in Nagpur, India.

\ A BIBLICAL ECONOMICS SEMINAR is scheduled May 29-June 2 at Valley Word Ministries, 1928 Loch Haven Drive. John and Patricia Avanzini of Trinity Broadcasting Network will lead the seminar. Four evening programs will begin at 7:30. Three morning sessions also will be held. Call 562-1500 to register. The seminars emphasize management of money for the individual and the church.

\ THE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN DISASTER PROJECT still has teams in South Carolina cleaning up after Hurricane Hugo. Nineteen adults from Virlina District worked at Copahee in late March, and 16 people are needed there June 4-9. To volunteer for a team, call 366-9280. Other Brethren teams are being formed to work in the Virgin Islands and in Selma, Ala.

\ A PLEDGE DRIVE has begun to put an FM radio station on the air. The station would broadcast contemporary Christian music 24 hours a day. Mac Miller of Vision Communications, Inc. is leading an effort to get 800 people to pledge $25 monthly. A teen group at Cornerstone Church is among the supporters of the proposed station, which is seen as an alternative to "satanic" secular songs.

\ DISCOVER MEDITATION, a program to enrich spiritual growth through self-inquiry, is scheduled at Unity of Roanoke Valley, 3300 Green Ridge Road N.W. Elizabeth MacDonald, co-founder of the Association Happiness for All Mankind, will speak during sessions at 9 and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday . On June 16, she will speak from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Association for Happiness for All Mankind in Greensboro, N.C., is an organization that attempts to help people achieve their full potential.
