AT&T PLANS TO LOWER LONG-DISTANCE RATES

American Telephone & Telegraph Co. said Thursday that it plans to lower prices for long-distance calls by $160 million - about 1 percent - starting July 1.

It also plans to eliminate the one free operator-assistance call it now gives customers each month.
