The first demonstration will be at the Shogun Restaurant, 7650 Williamson Road, May 26. It begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed at noon by a Japanese luncheon. The cost is $17.50 including tax and tip.

The workshop will follow the luncheon at 1:30 p.m. The charge is $15. Arrangements to attend must be made in advance by calling one of the above numbers.

Alden is president and senior professor of the New York Tachibana Chapter of the Ikenobo Society. Her visit is sponsored by the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Roanoke.
"Ikebana" literally means "to make flowers live again." It seeks to instill an appreciation for the beauties and rhythms of nature. The art has its roots in feudal Japan.
The Ikebono Society is the oldest of the schools in Japan. It has chapters throughout the world including the one in New York.
