Bernard Lee Parsons, age 68, died Thursday, May 17, 1990, at his home. He received his B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Agricultural Engineering from V.P.I. and was an Associate Professor from 1947 to 1985 in the Agricultural Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army from 1943 to 1947. He served in the European Theatre. During this time, he was a prisoner-of-war in Germany. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952 and received two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart during his service time. He was a member of the National Guard for 29 years. Mr. Parsons was an Elder, Chairman of Building & Grounds and past Superintendent of Sunday Schools at Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Frances Mitchell Parsons; four daughters and son-in-law, Linda Parsons, Blacksburg; Ann Parsons, Miami, Fla.; Carol Parsons, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Kay and Joe Reasor, Blacksburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Suzanne Parsons, Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Parsons and Jean Parsons, both of Richmond; father and mother-in-law, Woodie and Myrtle Mitchell, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church. Dr. Charles L. Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bernard L. Parsons Scholarship Fund for Agricultural Engineering, c/o Virginia Tech Foundation, Blacksburg, Va. 24061. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home.
