At the company's annual shareholders' meeting Thursday, the Richmond-based discount men's wear chain said sales increased 21 percent in the quarter compared to the same period in 1989, to $15 million from $12.4 million.
Net income rose to $488,000, or 21 cents a share, compared with $387,000, or 19 cents a share, for the period last year.
During the first quarter, four new stores were opened - in Greensboro, N.C.; Nashville, Tenn.; Savannah, Ga., and Valdosta, Ga. That brought the company to 94 stores in 19 states from Maine to Florida.
