ROANOKE ATHLETES COMPETE IN BIATHLON

Several Roanoke athletes performed well Saturday in the Biathlung, sponsored by the American Lung Association of Virginia. The competition consisted of a 10-kilometer (six-mile) run and a 48K (30-mile) bike ride.

Patrick Henry High runner Mike Glowczynski, 18, finished second overall, in a time of 1 hour, 45 minutes, 19 seconds. Jim Deyerle placed first in the 26-35 age division, and fifth overall, with a time of 1:58:30.

Dr. Junius Crowgey took third in the 55-over, and Wendell Scott and Artie Levin each placed in their respective divisions.

In women's competition, Elizabeth Niles finished second overall in 2:17:13, and Vicki Riggins finished second overall in 2:36:00. Susie Boxley and Carol Deyerle won the team competition with a time of 2:39:00. - Staff report
