\ William Martin Flippen, age 82, of Vinton, died Sunday at the Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church, the Chamblissburg Lodge #179 A.F. & A.M., and was a former employee of the American Viscose Corporation. He retired from the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Salem, and was a naval veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Wisconsin. Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Flippen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Hazel Gloriajean and Harold T. Cundiff, Vinton; Eleanor and Paul Richardson Sr., Roanoke; a foster daughter and her husband, Dot and Ron James, Fredericksburg; other foster children, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, four sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Flossie Patsel, Vinton; Mrs. Janie Wheels, Roanoke; Mrs. Meda Holdren, Vinton; Mrs. Daisy and Rev. C.B. Blevins, Spindale, N.C.; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Charlie and Helen Flippen, Stewartsville; Henry and Margaret N. Flippen, Roanoke; Tiny H. Flippen, Roanoke; Betty B. Flippen, Vinton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 1990 with the Rev. Dr. William L. Ross and Rev. Holly O. Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
