GROUP OPPOSING PLAN TO RAISE AIR FARE TAX

The Partnership for Improved Air Travel is mobilizing its 265,000 members to oppose a Department of Transportation proposal to increase taxes on airline tickets by 25 percent.

The partnership says there is a $7 billion uncommitted surplus in the Aviation Trust Fund, which is used to improve air travel, and the fund collects some $4 billion annually. It is asking members to write personal letters to their U.S. representatives and senators or pay $6.95 for three prepared Western Union mailgrams. - Staff report
