IVANHOE RECEIVES GRANT TO FORM RADIO STATION

Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, congratulated Ivanhoe on landing an $18,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant to create a non-commercial FM radio station to be operated by young community residents.

Boucher said the grant is part of a youth leadership demonstration project to mark ARC's 25th anniversary. It will go to the Ivanhoe Civic League, a citizens' group organized two years ago to revive the fortunes of this community lying in Wythe and Carroll counties.

The project will be supervised by Linda Copeland, a volunteer in Service to America working with the community's young people.
