APPALACHIA HOSTING WRITING WORKSHOP

The Appalachian Center for Poets and Writers will offer its summer poetry and fiction workshops June 23, with a registration deadline of June 1.

Writers can register for one or both workshops by submitting up to three poems or a short story of up to 2,000 words, a $20 registration fee per workshop, and a stamped self-addressed envelope to Judy Miller, Route 4, Box 958, Abingdon, Va. 24210.

For ACPW members, the fee is $15 per workshop. Membership dues are $12.

The workshops will be held at the J.R. "Bob" Smith Oil Co., with the poetry workshop running from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and the fiction, 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Both workshops will be conducted by Eve Shelnutt, author of "The Writer's Room" and several poetry and short story collections.

She has won a number of awards including the Mademoiselle Fiction Award and an O. Henry Prize.
