RICHMOND SCHOOLS PLAN LAYOFFS TO OFFSET CUTS IN BUDGET

The city of Richmond will be forced to lay off some teachers for the next school year because of municipal and state budget cuts, according to city school Superintendent Albert L. Jones.

A hiring freeze will not be enough to balance the budget, so layoffs will make up the difference, Jones said Tuesday.
