Eugene C. (Gene) Hollett, age 70, of 8209 Loman Drive, died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. South Dakota; a retired construction engineer for Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern; and a member of Summerdean Church of the Brethren. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Mason Hollett; two sons, Donald Eugene Hollett, Chester; James Cade Hollett, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Denise Leanowicz, Jennifer Leanowicz, Emily Hollett, Angela Hollett, and Brian Hollett; one brother, Charles Hollett, Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Alberta H. Lay, Grants Pass, Ore.; Opal H. Myers, Pittsburgh, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Building Fund at Summerdean Church of the Brethren. Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. James R. Worline officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel.
