SALES RISE AS LOTTO REACHES $7.9 MILLION

This week's Lotto jackpot will be $7.9 million, the largest since the game began Jan. 17, Virginia lottery officials said Wednesday.

Lotto sales are up 50 percent this week over last week, lottery officials said. Lottery outlets said sales were $165,407 Tuesday, the strongest Tuesday for lotto sales since the game began.

Eighty percent of the tickets are sold on Friday and Saturday.
