INSURANCE AGENT ACCUSED OF FAILING TO FORWARD POLICIES

A Roanoke insurance agent whose insurance license was revoked May 3 failed to forward more than 100 applications to insurance companies after clients had paid premiums, a state investigation alleges.

The Bureau of Insurance of the State Corporation Commission said dozens of Roanoke consumers who bought auto and homeowner's insurance from Scott A. Schmidt or his firm, Valley Insurance Agency at 5524 Williamson Road, may not have coverage.

Schmidt voluntarily surrendered his license this month at the request of the Bureau of Insurance following an investigation into complaints by consumers that they had paid premiums but never received policies.

Consumers who think they may be without coverage should contact the insurance carrier who was supposed to issue the policy. If not successful, contact the Bureau of Insurance toll-free at 1-800-552-7945.
