The fire, reported at 10:38 a.m., heavily damaged some vehicles as well as the floor and walls of J.B. Lewis Funeral Service on Randolph Street, said Lexington Fire Chief Kenneth Hall.
Hall said two firefighters were hurt battling the fire, one from breathing smoke and the other from contact with formaldehyde. Both were treated at Stonewall Jackson Hospital and released.
The fire at the funeral home in the historically black section of Lexington began in wiring in the basement ceiling, Hall said.
It took firefighters an hour to control the blaze, Hall said.
