PUBLIC HEARING TO FILL MARTINSVILLE BOARD SET

City Council on Tuesday scheduled a June 20 public hearing for the appointment to fill two School Board seats which become available July 1.

Johnnie Jones and Roger Martin are expected to seek reappointment, according to City Manager George Brown. Mayor L.D. Oakes advised the board that he would receive nominations until June 6.

Also at Tuesday's meeting, consideration of a 3 percent meals and lodging tax was put on hold. Councilman A.T. "Al" Groden, who originally proposed the tax two weeks ago, asked Tuesday that the matter be tabled.

Groden told council members he wanted to wait and see how much money the Police Department would be requesting for possible expansion.
