TWO STUDENTS HOSPITALIZED AFTER FATAL CRASH

A Giles County High School student was in critical condition Wednesday and another was in serious condition after a weekend car wreck that killed another one of the five people in the car.

Michael Grady Morris, 16, of Pearisburg, was killed early Sunday when the 1980 Honda Civic he was riding in struck a guardrail, flipped several times and landed on its roof. Police said Morris had been in the back seat and died of head injuries.

The driver of the car, Sky Jasper Pratt, 18, was being treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for head injuries. A nursing supervisor said his condition had worsened during the day.

Michael David Slusser, 16, also was injured and taken to Roanoke where he was in serious but stable condition. His condition improved Wednesday and he was taken off life support systems, the supervisor said.

Two other occupants - Anthony Charles Myers, 12, and Jason Nepstead, 12, both of Giles County - were in the back seat with Morris and were unhurt, Trooper Mike Sargeant said.

None of the occupants was wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, which happened about 12:30 a.m., Sargeant said.

One can of beer was found in the car, Sargeant said, but he did not know if the driver had been drinking and was waiting for blood-alcohol tests.

No charges had been filed.
