\ JEAN COOLEY, a former staff member of Roanoke Area Ministries and Salem Presbyterian Church, will graduate Sunday from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. Cooley will become associate dean of the faculty of the seminary and work in guidance. Her husband, William, formerly pastor of Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, is now serving a Richmond congregation.
\ THE WORLD OF ISLAM, an adult study, will be presented Sunday at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, Second and Church in downtown Roanoke. The Rev. Alvord M. Beardslee of the Hollins College religion faculty will lead the study. The program will begin with potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. The presentation will start at 6:30. A nursery will be available.
\ SEVEN ADULT MEMBERS\ of TEMPLE EMANUEL have undergone the ritual of bat and bar mitzvah. The service for the coming of age in the Jewish faith was not held at the usual early teen period for Jane Bender, Dr. Edward Cornbleet, Jane Davidson, Barbara Hicks, Paula Kaplan, Charlotte Lippmann and Carol Shields. Their service of choice was a first for the temple.
\ CAVE SPRING BAPTIST CHURCH has joined others in the Roanoke Valley in discontinuing the use of plastic foam cups at church socials. China cups will be used for all general fellowship events.
\ THE PRESBYTERIAN COMMUNITY CENTER, an ecumenical ministry to the needy based at 1228 Jamison Ave. S.E., has scheduled an open house June 3 from 1:30 to 6 p.m. George Pollash, director, said the center has recently been refurbished with new furniture, painting and rugs.
