GENERALS 7TH IN NCAA GOLF EVENT

The Washington and Lee men's golf team shot a round of 302 Thursday to remain seventh at the NCAA Division III championships.

The Generals, whose best finish ever in NCAA play was seventh in 1977, have a three-day total of 921 in the four-day event. The round of 302 was their best this season.

Methodist shot a single-day record of 3-under-par 285 Thursday to open a 25-stroke lead over second-place Ohio Wesleyan.

Rob Pilewski of Methodist shot a 69 Thursday and leads the individual competition with a 2-under 214 total on the Indian Mound Golf Course. Wittenberg's Rick Lyons is one stroke back.

Brad Thoburn shot a 71 and leads W&L with a three-day total of 224. He is tied for 11th.
