WOMAN ARRESTED IN KILLING

Pulaski County sheriff's deputies have arrested a Lynchburg woman they believe was responsible for the slaying of a Pulaski man in January because she started a false rumor.

Lisa Gail Gallimore was arrested Wednesday afternoon and released that night on $20,000 bond.

Monday, a Pulaski County grand jury indicted Gallimore on an involuntary manslaughter charge in the slaying of James Glen Branscome, 42, of Pulaski.

Though she is not accused of actually killing Branscome, police say she made false statements that may have caused Branscome to be killed.

Branscome was found shot to death Jan. 14 near a trailer park on Virginia 788 south of Newbern.

Police arrested Walter Keith Southern, 31, of Newbern, near the scene that night and charged him with murdering Branscome. He also was charged with using a firearm to commit murder.

He has been released on $25,000 bond. A jury trial is scheduled for Aug. 20 and 21.

Southern told police someone had told him earlier that night that Branscome had kidnapped his wife, police reported. The shooting occurred after Southern confronted Branscome, police said at the time.

Also at the time, police said a rumor about the kidnapping was started earlier that night to conceal the true whereabouts of Southern's wife, but they didn't know who started the rumor.

Police later determined Gallimore had told Southern and a few friends about the alleged kidnapping, according to Mark Surber, investigator with the Sheriff's Department.

"And that led to him [Southern] going up and confronting Branscome," Surber said.

Surber said the manslaughter charge was brought against Gallimore, "based on the fact that her information led to him [Branscome] being killed."

Gallimore, who lived in Radford at the time, was released after her parents posted her bond. A trial date had not been set.
