THREE CHARGED IN BOY'S ABDUCTION

Police in North Carolina have started extradition proceedings against three men arrested on charges of abducting the 5-year-old son of one of the men from the boy's mother in Pulaski.

The three charged are Paul D. Justice Jr., 25; his father, Paul D. Justice Sr., 45, and his brother, Robert E. Justice, 20, all of Mocksville, N.C.

They were indicted by a Pulaski County grand jury last week on charges of kidnapping Paul D. Justice Jr.'s son, Paul D. Justice III.

"It's a damn confusing case," T.M. Smith, investigating officer in Pulaski, said.

Police said it came about like this:

The boy had been living with his mother, Judy Justice, in Johnston's Trailer Court. She had custody of the boy and two other children since she and her husband had separated.

The three Justice men drove from North Carolina to Pulaski on April 29. They were charged with breaking into the trailer of Judy Justice's mother, Perry Prince, and taking the boy, who was asleep on his grandmother's couch.

The men then burst into Judy Justice's trailer nearby and threatened to take the other two children, she told police.

"They kicked her front door plumb off its hinges," Smith said.

When the men threatened to take the other children, Judy Justice told police, she threatened them with a pot of hot oil she had been using to cook french fries, Smith said.

"When she reared back, they took off," he said. "And they say they're not coming back."

Judy Justice filed charges in Pulaski and the men were arrested a few days later in North Carolina on fugitive warrants. All three posted bond and were released.

Smith said the 5-year-old was still in North Carolina with his father. He said he expects to bring the men and the boy to Pulaski after the sheriff's department in Davey County, N.C., completes extradition paper work.
