SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE RECOGNITION

Roanoke schools honored more than 2,300 volunteers, businesses and community groups for their support during the past year.

Awards were handed out at Tuesday's ceremony at the Airport Marriott to pay tribute to nearly 62,000 hours of volunteer service.

Those honored included Allstate Insurance Co., which contributed more than 200 volunteers and 150 hours of service a month to Forest Park Elementary; Crystal Spring Elementary's 120 volunteers, who donated more than 3,000 hours of service and raised $20,000; and Geraldine McClammer, a senior citizen who has spent 15 hours a week for five years helping children at Monterey Elementary.
