Mr. Francis E. Hamilton, of Amherst, died May 29, 1990, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ann Allen, after a long illness. He was born in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., November 7, 1910, the son of the late Boyd and Ruby Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kate Whitehead Hamilton. He grew up in Appomattox County. Mr. Hamilton is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Ray (Ann) Allen, Blacksburg; a brother, Elkin Hamilton, Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Mrs. Dean (Ann) Cranwell, Vinton; Ray Allen, Jr., Harpers Ferry, W. Va.; Mrs. Larry (Katie) Forbish, Gloucester; two great-grandchildren, Michael Cranwell and Rebecca Cranwell, both of Vinton. Mr. Hamilton was an Army veteran of World War II. He was also a former member of the Amherst Town Council. With partners he established several businesses which continue: The Amherst Gulf Center, The Amherst Motel, and the Ryan's Nursing Home. He was a charter member of the Winton Country Club. The family will receive friends at Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst, Thursday, May 31, 1990, from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Services will be at the Driskill Funeral Chapel, 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 1990. Dr. Ray Allen, Mr. Hamilton's son-in-law and Pastor of the Blacksburg Baptist Church will conduct the funeral, assisted by Dr. Bill Ross, Pastor of the Vinton Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Amherst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers friends may donate to the Memorial Fund of the Blacksburg Baptist Church.
