SIX GENERALS NAMED TO ACADEMIC SQUAD

Six Washington and Lee athletes top the Virginia Sports Information Directors' Academic All-State team announced Wednesday.

The Generals' Michael Holton (basketball) and Reid Campbell (golf) were named to the first team, Teresa Southard (tennis) and Jay Smith (swimming) were voted to the second team and Wes Boyd (track) and Melissa Jay (volleyball) were third-team selections.

Virginia Tech's Amy Byrne (basketball) was a second-team choice, and Virginia was represented by David Kanstoroom (tennis) and Richie Sharff (baseball) on the third team.

Emory & Henry's Doug Reavis (football, baseball) was a first-team selection, VMI's Andrew Preston (soccer) was a third-team choice and Radford's Tammy Goldsmith (volleyball) was named honorable mention. - Staff report
