\ WILLIAMSBURG - Otis Ashton Waldrop, age 89, retired design and construction chief for the U.S. General Services Administration, died Tuesday, May 29, 1990, at Williamsburg Landing Healthcare Pavilion. Mr. Waldrop last major project for the GSA was supervising construction of the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of Science and Technology. Following his retirement from federal service, he oversaw construction of the Australian Chancery building in Washington and the Howard University's Medical School's hospital. Mr. Waldrop attended Randolph-Macon College and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he was a member of the cadet corps. He was a major in the Army in World War II. A native of Hanover County, Mr. Waldrop lived for many years in Kensington, Md. He moved to Williamsburg in 1975. He was a member of the Williamsburg Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution; Williamsburg Presbyterian Church; Almas Temple of the Shrine in Washington; and Lakeland Masonic Lodge in Roanoke. He is survived by his wife, Frances Robertson Waldrop; one daughter, Martha McCartney Aschman, Williamsburg; three sisters, Mildred Cross, Ashland; Moxelle May, Richmond; Luzelle Holman, Glen Allen. A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to the York County Rescue Squad.
