KRZYZEWSKI INTERESTED IN CELTICS

Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski has declined to comment further on a published report that quoted him as saying he would be interested in the Boston Celtics' coaching job if it was offered.

Krzyzewski was in his office in Durham, N.C., briefly Thursday morning before leaving town. He could not be reached for comment.

USA Today reported in Thursday's editions that Krzyzewski and Dave Gavitt, Boston's new head of basketball operations, had spoken in the last two weeks.

"Dave hasn't approached me about the job," Krzyzewski was quoted as saying. "But if it happened, I would look into it. The Celtics are one of the marquee franchises in America. Every kid growing up on the East Coast knows about `Havlicek stole the ball.' "

Krzyzewski, whose Blue Devils lost to Nevada-Las Vegas in the 1990 NCAA Tournament final, is the U.S. coach for the Pan American and Goodwill games. He is considered a candidate to coach the 1992 U.S. Olympic basketball team.

\ Former Virginia Tech basketball standout Perry Young was traded by the Quad City Thunder to the Oklahoma City Calvary in a deal involving Continental Basketball Association teams.
