If becoming a part of Vinton is so attractive and advantageous, why won't the town join in this endeavor? The answer, of course, is obvious!
One of the main reasons Vinton desires to absorb the eastern part of Roanoke County is that it has agreed, if consolidation is approved, to share equally with the Roanoke Metropolitan Government in the revenues and expenses of Explore Park-South. If you think EPS will be a money-maker, you are indeed an optimist. Further, who knows what those expenses may amount to; also, where is Vinton going to obtain that kind of money? Without the capability of taxing eastern Roanoke County, Vinton may find itself in quite a dilemma. JOHN B. ELLIS VINTON
