CSX TO FURLOUGH 16 IN CLIFTON FORGE
CSX Transportation Inc. said it will furlough 16 shop workers at Clifton
Forge, along with 45 at Cumberland, Md., because of a decision to retire more
than 200 older locomotives. CSX said the retirement of locomotives also is the
reason for the transfer of other shop workers from Hamlet, N.C. and Tampa,
Fla. to shops at Waycross, Ga. and Corbin, Ky.
In other Covington-Clifton Forge employment news, the April unemployment
rate was 5.5 percent, down from 7.8 percent in March, according to the
Virginia Employment Commission.
