GRAYSON COUNTY'S WALK ON WILD SIDE ENDS IN LOSS

Grayson County's baseball season came to an end Friday evening as Wilson Memorial defeated the Blue Devils 13-2 in the semifinal round of the Group A tournament.

Pitching was Grayson County's downfall as four Blue Devils combined to walk 16 batters.

Grayson County struck first when Shawn Allen hit an RBI double in the third inning to give his team a 1-0 lead. But things fell apart for the Blue Devils in the fourth inning.

Starter Devin Floyd, who pitched well through three innings, could not get an out in the fourth and was relieved by Danny Pollard, who also struggled. Floyd took the loss, his second of the season.

Wilson Memorial got more than enough runs in the inning, scoring seven times on seven walks, an error and three hits. All seven runs scored before the first out.

The Green Hornets added two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to complete the rout. Travis Painter had three hits to lead Wilson, which will play the winner of the second semifinal game - between Bath County and Lunenburg Central - today at 2 p.m. for the state championship.
