FOUND BODIES MAY BE TWO MISSING STUDENTS

Skeletal remains of two people were found in a wooded area Tuesday and police were checking whether they were two missing Virginia Commonwealth University students.

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office and the Richmond police were working together to determine if the bodies were those of James Sherrin, 20, and Deborah Ferguson, 21, who disappeared from Richmond May 18, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The bodies were found by a passer-by about 6:20 a.m. in woods near a commuter parking lot off U.S. 360, the sheriff's office said.

Although no cause of death was released, a source close to the investigation told The Richmond News Leader the two had been shot.
