COMMERCIAL CRAFT ARE NOISY, TOO

THE ROANOKE Airport Commission has decided to notify the Air Force that the area around the airport, especially over the residential area of Pendleton Avenue and Plymouth Drive Northwest, is a quiet zone for its jet aircraft.

It took a stunt like the Air Force's to make the commission aware of the loud commercial jet-aircraft noise from the airport Northeast Runway extension over the residential area.

The noise interferes with and destroys the use and enjoyment of owners' property from before 6 o'clock each morning until after midnight. Most of these people lived in this area and owned their property before the Roanoke Airport was expanded in any direction.

It seems that the Federal Aviation Administration control tower lets the commercial jet pilots choose the runways they want to use regardless of the noise and interference to this residential area.

I believe it is about time for the Airport Commission to declare a quiet sleep zone for the area. GLENN W. CROWDER ROANOKE COUNTY
