\ John Granger Macfarlane, age 91, died Monday, June 4, 1990. He was a son of the late William and Ellen Stuart Robertson Macfarlane. Mr. Macfarlane was born in Washington, D.C., May 10, 1899, and retired from the U.S. Department of the Navy in 1969. He had made his home in Roanoke for the last 16 years. Surviving are his son, J. Granger Macfarlane, Roanoke; two grandsons, John G. Macfarlane, III, Darien, Conn.; Charles Stauffer Macfarlane, Richmond; two granddaughters, Anne Sanford Macfarlane-Eager, Anchorage, Alaska; Mary Banks Macfarlane Barnhill, Albany, Ga.; two great-grandsons, John Granger Macfarlane, IV, Barclay Dalziel Macfarlane, both of Darien, Conn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Roanoke Area Ministries, 824 Campbell Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24016. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Burial Park, with the Rev. William R. Klein officiating. The family will receive friends at the home after the service.
