GM, SOVIET FIRM SIGN $1 BILLION DEAL

General Motors Corp. has agreed to sell modern engine pollution-control systems to the Soviet Union's Volga Auto Works in a $1 billion deal, GM announced Thursday.

The largest automakers in the United States and the Soviet Union signed the agreement Thursday at Volga's operations at Togliatti, 700 miles east of Moscow, according to GM.

It is the first automotive deal between U.S. and Soviet companies in recent history. - Associated Press
