The builders are Powers & Sutton of Roanoke, a partnership of Calvin Powers and Ted Sutton, who is Powers' son-in-law. A building permit for $600,000 was issued for the project last month.
Jerry Hogan has been named marketing director for the project, which is in the process of being registered with the Virginia Real Estate Board. Hogan said the paperwork should be completed within 45 days. Until registration is complete, the units cannot be sold but can be reserved by prospective buyers.
Hogan returns to Bernard's with this project. He helped sell the 74 Bernard's Landing condominiums that were acquired by Dominion Bank in 1985 in the bankruptcy of developer David Wilson. The sellout of the Wilson project was completed in early 1989.
Powers, who owns Civic Mall and Guard Rail Inc., a highway sign and guard rail company, in Roanoke, has owned a condo at Bernard's Landing since 1982. This is his first building project at the Lake.
The 72-acre Bernard's Landing, located on Virginia 616, was a showcase project at the lake in the early 1980s. Wilson is credited for making the lake known throughout the East because of his efforts to publicize the development.
Wilson, who owns Smith Mountain Realty, continues to develop at the lake.
The Powers-Sutton project, Peninsula Towers, will be priced from $99,500 to $105,000 for the one-bedroom units and from $185,000 to $199,000 for the two-bedroom units. Homeowner fees range from $164 to $199 per month, depending upon the unit purchased, Hogan said.
